Lincoln’s Gettysburg World—MessageLincoln’s Gettysburg World—Message is probably Henry Eyster Jacobs’ most important History Book, because he wrote about the History of his hometown of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, one of the most important battles of the American Civil War, Edward Everrett’s longwinded speech, and Abraham Lincoln’s short and sweet “Gettysburg Address,” and the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg. The footnotes were written by both James O’Flannery and Henry Eyster Jacobs. Henry “Heinrich” Eyster JacobsHenry “Heinrich” Eyster Jacobs lived from November 10, 1844 to July 7, 1932 in Pennsylvania. He was the son of Michael Jacobs and Julia Ann Eyster-Jacobs. Both Michael and Henry were Lutheran pastors and Theologians. Herny’s wife was Laura Hewes (nee Downing)—Jacobs. Henry was also a historian and translator, who wrote about Lutheran Church History and who translated sacréd Lutheran texts from German and Latin into English. Henry graduated from Pennsylvania College aka Gettysburg College in 1862 and he graduated from The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg in 1865. Henry was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1868 and he served The General Synod of the Lutheran Church and then later in The General Council of the Lutheran Church. Henry was a prolific writer of both Christian Theology Books and Lutheran Church History Books. The Jacobs Family were staunch Abraham Lincoln Republicans. Read more
